Album Notes
The Blackwater Band take their name from the river Blackwater that flows beneath the Comeragh Mountains in West Waterford where all the band members hail from. Playing Irish music all over the world for over 20 years they have decided to make a new CD which will be available in the shops before the end of July, of their infamous Monday Night Session in the Marine Bar. As they say when the band is reaching their peak “Fasten your seat belts, turn off your mobile phones as you are about to be lifted in body and soul to the place where you have always wanted to be...” This CD will give you the ability to bring you there no matter where you are playing it.
To accompany the launch of the CD they are committed to travelling the world once again and bring song and craic to venues big and small. They have booking for new venues like Eddes Sands in the Lebanon to revisiting the annual haunts in Heidelberg Germany. Of course they are travelling extensively in Ireland and playing at open air festivals in Waterford and throughout Ireland.
The Band members are all accomplished in their various instruments and are lead by Christy O’Neill on guitar and vocals. Christy has played with many bands particularly well know was Bodhran. No man has a greater love for the music as he plays seven nights and sometimes days, in his bar near Dungarvan called the Marine Bar. He has released various CD's and most notably The Best Irish Pub Songs in the World, which went gold.
On Bodhran we have Michael Finnegan or best known to one and all as Finn. A master of the Bodhran and very handy at the singing Finn brings his own special beat to the music accompanied by the odd story or two. With over 40 years of playing under his belt and again having played for many years with Bodhran no man knows the beat of the music better than him.
Caroline King is the only female member of the band and plays guitar, whistle and practically any instrument you put in front of her. However she is best known for her skill on the piano accordion which she plays so effortlessly. She has a beautiful Irish Singing voice and sings both in Irish and English. A writer of many songs and music another fantastic musician who can hold her own with anyone.
Michael McKenna, probably the best button accordion player in the World. Words cannot describe what he is capable of doing with an accordion passed down to him from his father who started to teach him at the age of three and a half. An all Ireland winner when young and a world winner as he reaches the peak of his playing. Listen and be amazed!
Nicky Power on whistles brings the haunting airs to this first class group of musicians. He has shared the stage with musicians like the chieftains and played his version of the lonesome boatman for the Fureys. His control of breath and touch of the fingers enable him to give clarity and feeling to every note he plays. Playing the concert flute to the traditional tin whistle he will thrill your senses with traditional tunes.
Blackwater are managed by Gary Kiernan and are available to play for you wherever you are. You will be guaranteed to give your audience a night to remember as they will be brought through the highs and lows of Ireland through the richness of its music and songs.

Fantastic album
I was lucky enough to see this band Live at the Marine Bar when visiting some friends recently. Sadly, this album was not avaialable at the time. These musicians possess some amazing talents. What a collection of great songs!! This is a very well produced, clean sounding live album. A lively mix of traditional folk. The only thing you will find more enjoyable than listening to this, would be to spend a night at the Marine Bar. You won't be disapointed with this purchase.
