This album is called "Live in Little Five" in honor of the small bohemian refuge of Atlanta know as Little Five Points. Atlanta is my hometown so I've been hanging around that famous intersection of Moreland and Euclid Avenue for years...browsing the records stores, bar hopping, and of course, enjoying live music.
By 2003, I'd grown so fond of the area that I moved into a loft right across from the biggest music room in the neighborhood, Variety Playhouse. Every night the crowd anxiously waited under the marquee to enter the venue. Later, they shuffled out after the show, entertained and happy. At that time , I was only cutting my teeth on the local music scene and it would be years before my name would be up on that marquee.
By the end of 2012, The Hookers and I had been touring and working hard all year. It felt like we were finally making our mark on the southeast, and our final show of the year was booked at the Variety Playhouse.
That night, there was an excitement in the crowd that made me realize that it wasn't all just hard work that got us there, it was luck. I'm lucky as hell. I'm lucky to have music in my life and to find people who love the stuff I play. And I'm lucky to travel around and see all these great cities, but still have that one place to call home.
At Variety Playhouse, the band and I were lucky to have a memorable evening together in such a fantastic music venue! One gentleman even proposed to his girl while we performed "Without You." Lucky for him, she said yes! On that night it seemed like we were all in the right place at the right time and luckily...we got it on tape! Enjoy
