ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
As with their previous two releases, this album is comprised of live recordings made at various venues throughout the Northeastern U.S.. The personnel on this album includes the original seven bandmembers, including Patti Casey, who sings three of her own songs here. Track 14, Angel Band, is a standard of the bluegrass gospel canon. What makes this cut special is the fact that it was recorded in a maximum security women's prison. The reaction of that audience was palpably moving, and you can feel it here. It was truly one of the BGP's most stirring performance experiences. On the secular side, the cut of "The Blue Train" here is one that audiences still request, many years later. Also worth noting is the BGP's version of the Thomas Dorsey (the great gospel songwriter, not to be confused with the swing band leader, Tommy Dorsey) spiritual song, "Come, Let Us Go Back to God." As their first a capella endeavor, the BGP took their version from an early Sam Cooke cover, to great effect. The BGP's vocal harmonies and instrumental arrangements grow stronger with each successive recording, as is affirmed here. Add a Bela Fleck composition along with a sizzling traditional fiddle tune and you get an album's worth of great listening !

Gorgeous album!
Great songs. I'd love to play some of these (just no covers allowed) on my syndicated show "Country Legends In The Making" that reaches 400 am/fm stations around the world. You can take a look at my radio site at http://www.tspcountryradio.com and even listen to the recorded version of the show there if you like. Get back to me at ddsj84@yahoo.com if you want the airplay.
