Album Notes
Adi is a word in Sanskrit that means "prime" or "the first", which aptly sums up this collection of chant music from the newly formed sacred chant and mystic groove ensemble Blue Spirit Wheel. This album showcases the band's live trio sound, featuring Ian Boccio on bass guitar, Stephanie Kohler on harmonium and Jeffrey Lidke on tabla. The interplay of these three instruments creates a sonic universe of many colors, from light and bright to deep and dark.

The inhabitants of this musical reality are the words of the chants, vibrating with the ancient energies that are channeled through the language of Sanskrit. In songs honoring Ganesha, the manifestation of wisdom and remover of obstacles, the Divine Mother, in her warrior forms Durga and Kali, and her playful form Lalita, and Shiva, the essence of cosmic consciousness and bliss, Blue Spirit Wheel weaves a tapestry of rhythms and melodies that is both fascinating to listen to and expands the spirit.

The band's unique vocal styles have been born fully-formed here, with Stephanie's improvisational harmonies, Ian's layers of Sanskrit mantras and prayers, and Jeffrey's rhythmic voice improvisations in classical Indian forms. Welcome to the start of something totally new, to the creation of sounds that have never been heard before: Adi.
