Bobby & Sue Bates have a combined music background that encompasses over 70 years. After winning a national harmonica competition in NYC at age 21, Bobby worked and toured with such notables as Emmylou Harris, the Allman Brothers, Gordon Lightfoot, (The) Tom Jones, Ronnie Hawkins, Buddy Rich, Taj Mahal and a host of others notables. The couple is delighted to have discovered that they share genetic connections to Celtic music. It would naturally follow that they would add the genre to their other musical styles, particularly so since Celtic music appears to be the rootstock for all.
This 12 song album is their 2nd endeavor in the Celtic music genre. It is a collection of well known and much loved all-time favorites all done with the unique flair that their fans have come to expect. Of particular interest is the ancient "I Will Go" featuring Bobby on bodhran and also Gerry Rafferty's original "Right Down The Line" with its driving bassline guaranteed to set the toes a'tappin' as will the traditional "Bonnie Lass of Fyvie" which is most often played instrumentally only. Their rendition of "Amazing Grace", the last track on the cd, has been described by some listeners as possibly the best version that they have ever heard. The other tracks are equally enjoyable as well.
With their smooth, vibrant harmonies, Bobby's expertise on the harmonica, percussion and guitar with Sue's 12-string, bass and keyboard, this is a feel-good album that works well for road trips, background music or just sitting and listening.
