ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
After the success of “Alligator Woman” and three or four trips to England to play with blues bands and solo acoustic gigs, I decided to tell the world more about my personal, private thoughts and songs about politics, love and the world condition in general.

On “Phoenix” I paid homage to the musical styles which most influenced my life. Music by Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Art Blakley, Bill Doggett, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Neil Young, Tracy Chapman, Charles Lloyd, Donovan, Philly Joe Jones, John & Alice Coltrane and Jackson Brown.

The themes of “Phoenix By The Sea” begins with a piano piece, almost new age and tranquil. Midway the piece I struck some dissonant chords ‘cause it was just too mellow for me. “You Shouda Known Betta” is about my adventures on the road in England when events did not work well or I was stranded by inept “minders”. Through the mishaps I found a ‘band of Angels’. “Jimi Time Warrior” trips thru the sixties to the Monterey Pop Fest where I first heard Hendrix rock. “Jamaica” of course is about what I thought of my homeland and what really happened. I got to see the bullet holes in Marley’s house, heard Peter Tosh extol his faith in JAH and found many answers to i soul questions of origin.

bobi jackson , exemplifies the reality that honest rock and blues exist...pure fun and musical excitement! This woman's talents are evident. Her choices in life well thought out and even better applied, as evidenced in this her 2nd release for most, but I am an old BJ fan and know she has been living the life through many creavtive endeavours. A remarkable portrait is painted in 'Phoenix By The Sea'. If Venice was a mid-eastern haven Bobi's music would play, while people lounged on persian rugs, feasted on delicisies and wathched belly dancer's sway by the sea..you go grrl. PS--buy this CD and give to a friend or a stranger too! You will be rewarded.

When I listened to the title cut: Phoenix, I thought I was floating on a river, through the mountains. Each song took me to a diferent of my fav places. Thanks Bobi.
