With You (Tuesdance Mix)

by Bojan Land

Normally I compose electronica, techno, and trip-hop with a bit of rock thrown in, but this song somehow is off the charts, as it is a Lounge or an Easy Listening tune. I have no idea how my creativity flowed that particular month, as this is so unique!

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I grew up in a fairly poor country and we couldn't even afford a VCR, but we did have an old piano in the house. And so my parents invested in 5 years of piano and singing lessons. War came, and we fled to Canada. Obviously we couldn't afford a piano, but they again invested in something that would change my life, a PC! I found my way to some local BBSes and discovered the demoscene, a society of coders who can make full 3D engines in 64kb of code! Along them there was amazing music, stuck into tiny files, yet it sounded absolutely amazing! This lead to me discovering Scream Tracker, and eventually Impulse Tracker, and spending the next 10 years writing at least one song per day.

But then I made some friends with serious musicians, and they were all using DAW tools on Macs! So I did what every aspiring musician does. I got a job working in the Internet industry, and bought myself my first Mac! But I couldn't figure out how to make music in this graphical heaven. I was used to Impulse Tracker, which works much like a spreadsheet. I would enter numbers and letters and press a button and listen to it make sounds, and then stop it, and adjust the values in the cells, and repeat. It's very painstaking work! But the results can be spectacular! So I never learned Apple's Logic, nor Propellerhead's Reason. The software just sat on my harddrive, and I went back to Impulse Tracker. Several years passed, and I decided to give these professional tools a chance - it's a shame to use one of the most expensive computers on the planet for web browsing! So, I spent a full year learning professional DAW tools in my spare time after work, and I started being very productive in them. So I decided to start my own label, quit my job, and start releasing music professionally.

But then the unthinkable happened. 7 days after renting out an office and setting it all up, while I was working out at a local gym, someone broke in and stole everything! I tried to buy new equipment and to load my work from the backups, but there was a glitch in the backup software, and half of the data required to build the song projects was missing. I was devastated and fell into a depression. I gave up on music completely. I had lost 15 years worth of work just like that!

So I decided to travel for a while and went back to where I grew up, still a very poor place, and spent about two years making friends, talking to my neighbours, and I even made friends with about 30 local kids who invited me to play with them. Soccer, Tennis, and all sorts of other games. I totally forgot about how bad I felt. I overcame my depression, and came back to Canada. Got several computers, setup a small studio, and started writing again.

And that's when it happened. In a folder that travelled with me there and back, which I never even opened, was an audio CD. And on it, was about 15 songs from that backup, which were complete masters. The thief didn't ruin everything! The first song I am releasing is called With You, and it's a huge departure from my usual style of electronica, trip-hop, and trance. This is a Lounge or Easy Listening tune. I have no idea how I managed to write it, as I don't even listen to this kind of music for the most part. I was impressed, and everyone who heard it told me it must be released to the rest of the world. And here we are!
