Album Notes
“These 7 pieces were originally created as backing tracks
for various collaborations between 1997 and 2006 that,
for one reason or another, never came to fruition. Having
all but forgotten what I had recorded, I recently came
across the masters and decided to give them a listen. To
my surprise they seemed to have a life of their own.
Where I expected to find arid, empty passages I found
ambient oases brimming with imaginary instruments.
Sparse perhaps but proving, once again, that less can often
be more. I hope you enjoy them. RB”

RICHARD BONE (born February 3, 1952 - Atlanta, GA) has been creating music for over twenty-five years. He began his early musical career creating soundtracks and scores for several off-Broadway companies working in experimental theater. In 1979 he released the single Pirate the Islands/Headlines Have It before joining the legendary band Shox Lumania in 1981. That same year Richard recorded a solo 7" called Digital Days/Alien Girl on his own that was picked up by Survival Records in the UK. While with Survival he released two LPs, four EPs, two 45s and composed several singles for various compilations albums. In 1983 his single Joy of Radiation reached #1 on the charts in Hong Kong.

Richard started Quirkworks Laboratory Discs in 1991 allowing him the freedom to create music of a more experimental nature and remain in control of his musical direction. The next fifteen years would see Richard release twenty recordings of new material, a compilation of previous Quirkworks' releases, a CD of alternate or previously unreleased tracks, co-produce and contribute musically to Mary Zema's Songs of Early Paradise as well as contributing tracks to numerous compilations and various other musical projects. Of the new material recordings, three quickly rose to the #1 placement on industry charts as well as receiving numerous other honors. In 2004 Richard's recording The Reality Temples was nominated for the NAR Lifestyle Music Awards Best Electronic Album and his 2005 recording Saiyuji was nominated for the NAR Lifestyle Music Awards Best Ambient Album.

In March 2007 Bone released Via Poetica, a collaboration with poet/vocalist Lisa Indish and Experiments '80-'82, a limited edition CD of selected tracks from his work from 1980 to 1982. Bone has also completed a new rhythmic recording entitled Infinite Plastic Creation that released September 10th of this year. Other projects for the future include a new video project in progress titled Short Waves - 20 Brief Excursions in Surreal Video and an in-depth biographical book devoted to Bone's life and musical career compiled by a British author.

Writings by Serge Kozlovsky
The harmonies arise from Chaos,
The life comes to the world from a tiny seed…

Seven of Richard Bone’s compositions not issued earlier are presented on his “Connection Failed” album. Notwithstanding an apparent eclecticism, they all have something in common. And that is an irrepressible stream of consciousness. Richard Bone takes the listener into the process of his creative work and, once having had the sensation of it, you can’t tear yourself away and just journey with the composer, hover in his harmonies and enjoy the delicate sense of his inspired music.

This is music one will want to hear time and again. After having listened once you understand that the world was poorer without it, and it will never become as it was again. Richard Bone’s music clears your consciousness. It opens wide the window in front of you, and in its openess you see the whole universe and it calls to you. And once you have come to it, you will never be the same person.

Richard Bone’s music is magic... It compels your mind to work and not only renews your imagination, but urges to create something in response.

It is a great pleasure that these seven compositions have been issued on “Connection Failed”. Thanks to them you can hear an unfamiliar and much desired side of Richard Bone.

My favorite composition of this album is “Delicate Westerns”. In its short, laconic sounds there is a breathing of the unknown, a voice of tomorrow. Which will it be? It is kept from your eyes. And at the same time the music of “Delicate Westerns” urges motion. It helps you not be afraid of the unknown, and just walk in the direction your heart prompts. And this way will without doubt bring you to a self-awareness…

As always Richard Bone’s music is refined and exquisite. “Connection Failed” is a sample of perfect electronic music, the acme to which modern musicians should aim.

You should to listen to Richard Bone’s new album “Connection Failed” without fail. It is not just music, there is a pulse of the times in it, and its minimalist sound reflects the breathing of real life.

At times of shocks and deep distempers
When ground slips away under your feet
The only stream of radiant music
While changing still remains unchanged.
