Album Notes
This a self confessional story related to good and evil with challenging viewpoints on the concept of freedom. Vassar Clements was a real good buddy of mine and his five-time Grammy nominations speak clearly for his legend. He takes the first fiddle solo, which he did in one take, and it is an amazing study in the harmonic device known as the "Devil's interval". His solo is worth buying this song as his fiddles spews with tortured soul riffs and pain. Then Lee Bogan, from Joe Diffie's band at the time, arrives with a guitar solo in the leagues of the best. Once again, the blood is dripping from the strings. The final solo of the middle instrumental trilogy of this song is myself. I must admit, it took a little nerve to follow Vassar Clements, but his solo inspired all. There are symbolic references in the lyrics to alcohol, womanizing, prostitution, cocaine, and the Devil. This is certainly a Robert Johnson type piece with the final warning about selling your soul to the Devil. Intense...
