ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The first eight songs on "Sound the Shofar" are based on texts from the Daily Amidah and the Shabbat Amidah, continuing the work that began for me with "Shirei T'fillah (Songs of Prayer)." Pete Seeger's "Turn! Turn! Turn!" is based on text from Ecclesiastes. The final track, "American Dreamer," which was recorded in 1977, is about my grandfather, Morris (Moishe) Plotka, who I observed praying the Daily Amidah when I was a child. My hope for these songs is that they will provide others with an accessible way to understand and, if desired, to memorize these prayers in order to pray them, to be mindful of what is important in life, of what is good and of what is expected of us.

Special thanks:

o To all of the musicians and singers, who donated their considerable talents and their time to the making of this CD
o To Pete Seeger and Melody Trails, Inc. for permission to include the recording of Pete Seeger's "Turn! Turn! Turn!" on this CD for the purpose of fundraising for Chevra USA, which provides food, medicine and subsistence funds to elderly Jews in the countries of the former Soviet Union and in Israel
o To Rabbi Stuart Dauermann for his co-authorship of the English translation of "T'kah B'shofar"
o To my wife, Melinda, for creating the cover art and inspiring the harmonic structure of "Ki L'Yisrael"
o To Steve McConnell for his permission to use the shofar track from "Asrei Ha'am" on the "We Delight" CD for "T'kah B'shofar"
