Album Notes
Brad Smolkin is a singer/songwriter from New Orleans who made his first appearance on Bourbon Street at age 15, until he was busted for being under age. During the late Sixties and early Seventies, he played in rock bands Armadillo and Simmer, and then as a solo in folk bars such as Jed's, The Maple Leaf and Clarity, f/k/a Andy's (back to Bourbon Street!). He also performed regularly at pizza joints, hotel lounges and on the riverboat Natchez.

The original songs on "Zero to Sixty," all of which were written between 1975 and 2009, are the soundtrack of the life of a baby boomer, from New Orleans to Berkeley to Hartford, Connecticut.

The following tracks were written for my wife, Melinda, and my daughter, Chloe, and were recorded digitally in my home studio in West Hartford, Connecticut:

Bayou Melinda
If You Only Knew
If I Had It to Do All Over Again
Little CatManDo (vocals: Melinda Smolkin and Brad Smolkin)
My Little Peanut
Turn! Turn! Turn! (Rich Nichol - flute; Seth Goldstein - guitar solo)
Figment II

These tracks were recorded at Studio in the Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana in 1975 with former members of the Bourbon Street band Simmer:

Green Lights
New Mexico Night Sky
Friday Night Lady
Better Luck Next Time

The musician's and singers on the Studio in the Country tracks were :

Vocals: Brad Smolkin, Susan Means, Betty Wynn and Joe Barbara
Lead Guitar: Joe Barbara
Acoustic guitar: Brad Smolkin
Grand piano: Brad Smolkin
Harmonica: Brad Smolkin
Electric Bass: Ben Fastring
Drums: Giles Meier
Pedal Steel Guitar: Buzzy Langford

These tracks were recorded to four track quarter-inch tape in my home studio in New Orleans in the early seventies:

New Orleans Gets Into Your Blood
I Ain't Takin' No Chances
American Dreamer
Don't Think Twice (It's All Right)
Jabberwocky [with thanks to Lewis Carroll and Henry VIII]

Hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I have enjoyed writing and recording them!
