Brendan Clarke is proud to present "Stretch" his debut album as leader. This album contains six of Clarke's originals as well as three jazz standards. It features some of Sydney's finest musicians with Andrew Gander on drums, Carl Dewhurst on guitar and Murray Jackson playing alto saxophone.
"Stretch" is an independent release fully funded and produced by Brendan Clarke. It was recorded in December 2012 at "Free Energy Device" by Richard Belkner who also mixed the album. Iconic Australian guitarist, educator and producer Jim Kelly mastered "Stretch" at "Tone Ranger Studios" in northern NSW.
Originally from Canberra Clarke is a graduate of the Canberra School of Music Clarke jazz studies program. In 1996 he performed at the Monterey jazz festival with the Canberra School of Music Big Band who won the right to represent Australia by winning a nation wide competition. He relocated to Sydney in 1999 and has since become one the the premier jazz bassists in Australia. He has appearing at all major the festivals around the Australia and has played on nearly 50 albums.
In 2001 Clarke was the first bassist ever to win the national jazz award at the Wangaratta jazz festival. Since then he has been fortunate to accompany a number of legendary international artists including Chris Potter, Eric Alexander, Charles McPherson, Maria Schneider, Darcy James Argue, Kirk Lightsey, Bob Shepard, Alex Sipiagin, Jim McNeely and Wycliffe Gordon. He has also been a member of a number of seminal Australian ensembles including the last quartet led by legendary saxophonist Bernie McGann, The Dale Barlow band, John Harkins Trio, Warwick Alder Quintet and is a long standing member of the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra.
