Fresh from their appearance at the Newport Beach Jazz Party, the Brian Piper Trio offers up its second collection of jazz standards performed with impeccable style.
The album not only showcases pianist Brian Piper's remarkable playing chops, but also highlights his arranging acumen and his talent for original writing. Piper is joined by renowned bassist Lynn Seaton and one of the emerging stars of the drum world, Jason Thomas ("JT" to most). Together, the trio breathe fresh live into such classics as Joe Henderson's "Recordame" and Ellington's "C Jam Blues," while also introducing Piper's innovative original, "Who The @#90! Is Robert Peterson?"
Said JT of the band's recording session for Terrrriffic!, "I've played with Roy Hargrove, Marcus Miller, Les McCan. Playing with Piper and Lynn is easy, very organic and natural. From the first time we played we just clicked. It's always great playing with unselfish players, it makes it all about the music, and which it should be."
