Album Notes
Bria Skonberg is a young trumpeter//vocalist from Canada. She has toured the world, playing major festivals and venues, while basing in New York City. Bringing the tradition of Louis Armstrong into the 21st Century, she writes compelling original tunes, plays sublime, swinging trumpet and sings with a fetching, angelic tone.
"...this fresh-faced 27-year-old trumpeter and vocalist brings considerable chops and charm to a venerable heritage." -- Will Friedwald, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
When not leading her own groups, she can often be heard in the Nicholas Payton Big Band, and at clubs and concerts alongside stellar musicians like Bucky Pizzarelli, Warren Vache, Howard Alden and Harry Allen.
Her new album, SO IS THE DAY, is comprised of mostly original compositions; the album features an all-star lineup of John Pizzarelli, Wycliffe Gordon, Victor Goines, Ulysses Owens, Jr. and others.

Astounding album!!!
Bria Skonberg is a revelation! She plays great trumpet, sings wonderfully, and writes amazing tunes. I think she's truly on of the rising stars in Jazz! All the songs, including the 3 covers, are superb. The opener swings like mad, sweet Bria vocal and a wicked trombone solo by Wycliffe Gordon! (How DOES he do that?) Track 4 features Bria singing and playing with the inimitable John Pizzarelli: What a winner! Track 5, "Have a Little Heart" is one of the best tunes I've ever heard; the lead sheet is in the CD notes. I'll be playing this tune!
The CD also has an amazing video with Bria playing with pianist Tardo Hammer and cornetist Warren Vache: Swinging!
"Chilliwack Cheer" is N'Awlins all the way -- Victor Goines struts his stuff, Wycliffe wails again, Jeff Lashway and Ulysses Owens romp, and Bria leads the way! Wave your hankies!!!
And keep them out, because the closer, "My Friend" will bring you to tears. Bria should end all her shows with this one!

I just got this. I've seen Bria a few times at music festivals and always enjoyed her, but this CD...WOW! There's so much more here than what I've seen live. I especially love So Far Away and Have a Little Heart. Chilliwack Cheer makes you get uo and dance! Just not sure if she's a better player ro singer!
