Quinn Bachand, one of Canada's most outstanding award winning young musicians and violinist Richard Moody, a veteran of the Canadian folk music scene share a passion for Gypsy Jazz music and have teamed up to form BRISHEN, a sizzling hot West Coast Gypsy Jazz ensemble that also features Reuben Wier on rhythm guitar and vocals and Joey Smith on upright bass.
Brishen's much anticipated debut album was recorded by Juno and Grammy Award winning producer Joby Baker at Baker Studios in Victoria, Canada and produced is by Quinn Bachand, Richard Moody and Joby Baker.
The album boasts 14 instrumental and vocal tracks balanced out with original compositions, gypsy jazz standards plus several unexpected gypsyfied tunes.
QUINN BACHAND - Lead guitar, violin, banjo
Seventeen year old Quinn Bachand is one of Canada's most outstanding young musicians. With diverse musical talents and a bottomless pool of creativity, Quinn Bachand is an experienced performer, a prodigious guitar player and gifted multi instrumentalist who is at ease playing a wide range of styles, from Celtic to Gypsy Jazz. Well known in the world of Celtic music, he's won two Irish Music Awards, for Top Traditional Group and Top Duo, he's received three Canadian Folk Music Award nominations, a Western Canadian Music Award Nomination and five Vancouver Island Music Award nominations, capturing the 2013 Youth Artist of the Year.
Quinn has released two critically acclaimed Celtic albums and performed at major folk and Celtic festivals across Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia.
RICHARD MOODY - Violin, Viola
A veteran of the Canadian folk music scene and considered by some as an underground legend, violinist Richard Moody has delved into almost every style a string player can try. Richard's musical interests lie mainly in improvisation, drawing from and combining the many styles and techniques he has learned in his extensive musical travels.
REUBEN WIER - Rhythm guitar, vocals
Reuben Wier is a multi-faceted musician who compliments his fiery yet unpretentious guitar playing with vocals described as "husky-smooth as honey". With influences ranging from swing to soul, gospel to manouche, blues to jazz, Reuben is known for his driving rhythms and nostalgic dreamy aesthetic.
JOEY SMITH - Upright bass
A native of Tennessee, Joey Smithy toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra for many years as bassist and arranger. He later moved to Rochester, New York to pursue graduate studies at the Eastman School of Music. A highly regarded and sought after bassist, Joey has performed and collaborated with numerous artists in Canada and the United States.
