Stephen Pytak is the author of a series of novels following the adventures of a low-rent mercenary known as "The .40 Caliber Mouse." The song "Sweet Echo of Memory" is the theme for one of the main characters, "Marci."
In the series, "Marci" is an FBI agent who becomes obsessed with "The .40 Caliber Mouse" and destroys her career in an effort to take over the subversive online business. She is introduced in the first novel in the series, "The .40 Caliber Mouse," and becomes the heavy in the sequel, "The .40 Caliber Mousehunt."
Stephen wrote the lyrics from the character's point of view. She is a loner who lives in her own world. Following the events of his second book, she's a fugitive on the run. And for comfort, she talks into a cell phone. It isn't on. She pretends she's talking to the love of her life. The lyrics reflect one of those conversations.
In 2011, Stephen made a few short films featuring the character, "With Love (2011)" and "Angel 116 (2011)." He hired actress Jenna McBreen to play the character in both films. He also commissioned her to sing the theme song for "Angel 116," which is called "Sweet Echo of Memory."
Stephen wrote the lyrics and he and Jenna developed the beat of the track. Dr. Paul Miller used a recording Stephen and Jenna made to write the music. The track was recorded by Jenna and Bruce A. Marianelli in September 2011. A number of versions of the song were released on a CD soundtrack for the film, "Angel 116," which is available at www.mazzpress.com
In January 2012, Stephen returned to the masters to remix the song for fun. In the end, he developed what he considered the definitive version. It includes samples of an acapella version, some chimes and a carefully placed piano stab. He called it "Sweet Echo of Memory: Marci's Theme."
The character "Marci" returned in a third film Stephen directed, "Dancing Shadows (2012)." And her story will continue in future novels.
