Album Notes
Steven "Blue Shoe" Shoemaker from Kansas City has been playing professionally in the USA and Europe since the 1970's. Whether he's blowing harp and singing his own compositions with the Blue Shoe Sole Revue, playing trombone with King Alex and the Untouchables or leading the horn section at various recording sessions, "Blue Shoe" has got the blues goin' on.
Shoemaker has performed side by side with many blues legends such as Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Luther Allison, Albert Collins, Bo Diddley and Charlie Musselwhite. As a leader or sideman, he has appeared on more than thirty recordings.
On his CD "I Want A German Woman", Shoemaker pulls out all the stops on the title track as well as on his other originals: "Blues'd Up", "Set Me Off" and Have Your Fun". Washboard Chaz Leary, recording veteran of more than fifty CD's, contributes strong vocals on four songs including his own "I Want A Gun And A Drink". "Blue Shoe" combines tongue-in-cheek lyrics and full arrangements using nineteen musicians.

Kansas City Blues News - "Trashmouth" Baker

Blue Shoe has finally gone and done it! After 20 years of playing, Steve Shoemaker has cut his first solo disc, I Want A German Woman.
Four Blue Shoe originals are presented, along with tunes penned by Chaz Leary, Mike Elrod and Billy Beale Woods. The copy tunes run from jump blues to T-Bone Walker, Johnny Guitar Watson and Willie Dixon.
Highlights include Shoemaker's Set Me Off, ably delivered by Washboard Chaz, and Fool No More by Mike Elrod. The title tune is a fantasy (especially for fools for leather boots) that needs to have someone like David Byrne really exploit its sicko factor. I Need A Gun And A Drink is a Chaz staple that continues the album's skewed theme. That's right - skewed! One can't be in the music business for 20 plus years and be conventional!
Kudos to Herr Shoemaker and his most able comrades! Now, ver ist der fraulein?
