ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
THIS IS THE NEW FULL-LENGTH RELEASE BY THE CULT SAN FRANCISCO-BASED BAND BURMESE. THEY FORMED IN IOWA CITY DURING THE LATE ‘90S. IN THE EARLY 2000s, THE CORE OF THE BAND RELOCATED TO THE BAY AREA, WHERE THEY STILL OPERATE IN DELIBERATE OBSCURITY, PRACTICING WEEKLY AND PERFORMING LESS THAN A HALF DOZEN INTENSE, CHAOTIC LIVE ACTIONS PER YEAR. THE BAND’S PREVIOUS EFFORTS WERE RELEASED ON THE TUMULT AND ROCK IS HELL LABELS AS WELL AS OTHERS.

BURMESE IS COMMITTED TO THEMSELVES AND THEY EXIST ONLY TO PLEASE THEMSELVES. THEIR MUSIC IS A PAINSTAKINGLY SADISTIC FUSION OF INFLUENCES FROM NAPALM DEATH TO EARLY SWANS TO WHITEHOUSE. THEIR MUSIC IS MATHEMATICAL AND PRECISE WHILE REMAINING BARBARIC AND ATAVISTIC IN ATTACK. THEY BELONG TO NO TREND OR IDIOM OR SCENE. ON THIS RELEASE THE BAND CONSISTED OF TWO BASS GUITARISTS, TWO DRUMMERS AND A SINGER.

THE TITLES ON THIS ALBUM ARE IN CHINESE. IT CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY AN OBI ON BOTH FORMATS. IT WAS RECORDED AT FANTASY STUDIOS IN BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA IN NOVEMBER 2009. IT WAS PRODUCED BY WEASEL WALTER. IT IS THE MOST IMMACULATE BURMESE RECORDING SO FAR IN TERMS OF AUDIO QUALITY. THE MESSAGE IS DELIVERED LOUDLY AND CLEARLY. THIS IS A DEVASTATING RECORD.

PEOPLE WHO WANT HEAVY, FUCKED-UP, BIZARRE MUSIC WILL LIKE THIS RECORD.
