ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
On its way to diminutive masterpiece of irresponsible post-modernism, Calvin Coolidge’s latest release, Calvinism 3.0, follows formula: drumkit, bass, guitar, vox, and a rotating cast of thirteen percussion samples: click, clap, boom, bap—etc. Reconfigured nine times (on as many tracks) to create a music that is at once like everything and nothing, these are the sounds and samples of Calvin Coolidge and their sundry pop-sources. From Paul Simon (“50 First Ways to Bite Your Lover”), and the Beatles (“Zwingli’s Blues”), to OutKast (“Float On, Ms. Jackson”) and Curtis Mayfield (“(The) New Welcome”), the detritus of pop-craft and pop-culture reemerge in new, calvinized waveforms: sea shanties for the girl from Ipanema, pseudo-techno for Diddy and his Bad Boy crew, “Simchas Torah” for the upwardly-mobile Ashkenazi. So join Calvin Coolidge for the third installment of the on-going Calvinism series in which they reconstruct, reconstitute, and rehash—with the attention of a four-year old—the pre-fab hip-hop beats and major-sevenths of ambiguous consciousness.
