Album Notes
These songs contain elements of well-known Egyptian, Iraqi and Greek songs and styles which I have performed on the streets and in the theaters of Baghdad, Cairo, Damascus, Amman and other Middle Eastern cities. Although I and Kristina are from the USA, we have studied the ancient micro-tonal scales of the region and when we perform these songs in their traditional forms local Arab audiences sing along with us. We have toured extensively in both the USA and in the Arab world in part to demonstrate how easily musicians can transcend political definitions.
I have played the Middle Eastern Lute, or Oud, for thirty years and have studied with many Arab, Turkish, Greek and Armenian musicians.
