ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Carey has always wanted to record a raw rock / blues CD that would capture a live feel without compromising the timeless message.

What prompted Carey to go back to his roots were discussions with producer, David Rashed. He suggested that Carey go back to where his musical journey started. Putting aside his acoustic guitar, Carey cranked up his electric guitar and recorded whatever sounds came out, mistakes and all. It was all captured and became most of the ideas used on the CD.

"This was extremely liberating," says Carey. It also allowed me to go to some unexplored areas that were dormant."

The approach to this recording was to keep things simple and true.

Some songs were inspired by dreams; while others were built out of favorite musical ideas.

Free To Fly's a guitar driven recording in which many of Carey's writing styles have been captured.
