I recommend this CD to all afficionados of quality Latin Music
I tremendously enjoyed Carlitos Medrano s' "Sabor De Mi Cuba" CD. I transferred the music to my ipod and can't put it down. It is a well constructed musical treat, blending the contemporary with the traditional. The lead vocals and chorus (coro) transcend you back to the studio in Havana, where the music was recorded. Carlitos is a well schooled Cuban percussionist, his roots go back to his teacher, the great Cuban Master percussionist Changuito.

WAO !!!!!!!!
"Percussion master Carlitos Medrano new cd, Sabor De Mi Cuba, has nine songs that he composed, played by a superb band with excellent vocalist Aldo Alvarez. Tight ensemble work and crystal clear production makes for a sparkling and joyous album of Cuban salsa."

Carlitos Medrano- Sabor De Mi Cuba
Born in Cuba, the land where the roots of Salsa can be found, Carlitos Medrano began his musical journey teaching himself to play bongos and congas which eventually lead him to broaden his horizons at the prestigious Escuela de Superacion Profesional de Arte "Felix Varela y Morales". Here he found himself in the company of such esteemed artists as Eliel Lazo Linares and Jose Luis "Changuito" Quintana. From then on his musical journey could only head in one direction; upwards and beyond. Being involved in various projects held him in good stead for what was to come. Carlitos now resides in San Francisco USA where he has been involved with even more projects.
All of this has led him to his Debut release joining forces with some of the tightest musicians around. If you have never before had the pleasure of listening to many a Cuban rhythm on one CD, then look no further than Carlitos Medrano's album "Sabor De Cuba".
Son, Changui, Conga, Rumba, Timba, Salsa and Afro-Cuban Jazz can all be heard on this this stellar release.
If I could use only one word to describe this album...it would no doubt have to be RIMBOMBANTE!!!!!!!

"Sabor A Mi Cuba", a wonderful compilation
Carlitos Madrano' s recently released C.D. "Sabor De Mi Cuba", is a wonderful compilation of several musical styles and Afro-Cuban rhythms of contemporary Cuban Music. The songs evoke the real "Sabor" (flavor), of his native Cuba and Carlitos takes us on a musical journey back to his homeland. These original compositions are masterly arranged and performed by some of Cuba's top musicians. "Un Son Para Juana" has brilliant horn lines, as well as a terrific piano montuno. The arrangements of "Mi Tumbao", and "Sabor De Mi Cuba" also bring out the finest attributes of Cuban Son. I highly recommend this incredible C.D., by one of the Bay Area's top Cuban Musician / Composer, Carlitos Madranos.

Cream of the Crop
"Sabor De Mi Cuba" is percussionist Carlitos Medrano's super study in excellence of Cuban dance form. Supported by an all-star cast which includes the piano and arrangements of Alexis Bosch Méndez, and knowledgable, inspired vocals by Aldo Miranda Alvarez, Medrano has gifted us with original compositions often delivering lyrics heavily infused with messages acting as guidance tools for youth.
Each tune presents its own landscape, brimming with precisely honed horn lines that beautifully compliment the intent of the montunos and guide lines offered by a rhythm section on fire! Throughout Medrano laces the whole together by laying superlative, conscious conga.
Carlitos Medrano began as a self taught percussionist. Inspired by some internal driving force, he augmented his performance credibility by enrolling in the Escuela de Superacíon Profesional de Arte. He then began study under the tutelage of such masters as Eliel Lazo Linares and the legendary Changuito. Medrano has since developed his percussion mastery by performing with a number of Cuba's "cream of the crop" purveyors. Carlitos Medrano Brindis is a welcomed, brightly shining exponent of the form- we are indeed fortunate that he now claims the United States as home.
Expect more of his brilliant composition and performance.
