Carmel believes that children need opportunities to be involved in making music particularly with singing and telling stories through song. Many children definitely retain information much better when they are able to sing a song about the subject matter. Music is a universal language shared by peoples from every culture and walk of life. It has a wonderful way of breaking down barriers. It touches the soul and stirs memories more than any other discipline. Through music we connect with our inner feelings and emotions.
Carmel also produced a comprehensive teacher’s manual containing 16 catchy songs, 2 discs, (vocal CD and a backing CD with harmonies) a list of suggestions for use including movement, discussion points and percussion arrangements.
The title track OUT OF THIS WORLD is a song about Astronauts looking back at the earth from space. They are amazed at how beautiful and fragile it looks from so far away. Ulf Merbold – German Astronaut – 1988 commented: “For the first time in my life I saw the horizon as a curved line. It was accentuated by a thin seam of dark blue light our atmosphere. Obviously this was not the ocean of air I had been told it was so many times in my life. I was terrified by its fragile appearance.”
"This CD is just the best! Love it"
Phillipa – Primary School Teacher
"Your songs are delightful and very catchy. The children love singing ‘Numbat’ and have learnt so much about this endangered marsupial because of your song. ‘Water in Our Lives’ is another inspirational song and is helping the students to appreciate the value of our precious water. This is a song that lends itself to students doing solos, both singing and speaking and it allows the children to be creative. Suzie Giannasi – MusicCo-ordinator, Currambine Catholic Primary School
"I am loving the songs Carmel. My kids are singing ‘Christmas in Australia’ everyday. It’s excellent having a resource like this, with songs that are not only beautiful but so educationally rich." Jenny Pederick – Harmony Primary School, Atwell
"We have been investigating space over the term so the obvious topic for our assembly was space. As soon as the children heard "Out of This World" they voted unanimously to use it. It is a beautiful song which was easy both in tune and words for the children to pick up and run with. If I had only one sentence to describe my feelings as they performed your song I would have to say they were "out of This World". Gail Westlund, Woodlands Primary School
