ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Mexico is a land of storytellers. Mexico has a sense of beauty and expression without fear of color and emotion. Mexico brilliantly embraces all that flows into its borders, music of immigrations and invasions. You find the banjo in the hills of La Mixteca, the canción cardenche, with its baroque roots sung like an African-American spiritual, while the European waltz and the Italian operatic duet reside in the smallest rincones of the country’s heart. This is the complex simplicity to which Cascada de Flores is drawn: the flower on the nopal.

In 2000, Cascada de Flores released their debut album, “México”, a diversity of song and traditional poetic dance music across time and geography. 10 years, 3 recordings later, “México” is still favored for its emotion and simplicity. To honor their first decade of music making, Cascada de Flores offers “13 Historias”, a reissue of their debut album including two new pieces in homage to their muse: Flor de Anís, an original composition in the old danza style, and Las Olas de la Laguna, an a cappella arrangement of an old son from Jalisco.

A gorgeous CD
I have this CD in its original release and have just ordered this reissue with the two additional tracks. It's been my great pleasure to follow Cascada for several years both live and on CD. 13 Historias is a CD of beautiful songs, gorgeously arranged and performed. The singing and musicianship are outstanding. If you have a chance to see Cascada de Flores live, be sure to take it. Their other CDs, Puente A La Mar and Mi Sueño are well worth getting as well.
