Album Notes
"The Quiet Wilderness" is a story in music and pictures about places in South Korea. I am Cassie, a musician and songwriter at large. I lived and worked as an english/music teacher in Korea for almost a year and a half. During my time there I was fascinated, inspired, discouraged, saddened, and enlightened by the people I met, and the places I saw. Somewhere along the way these thoughts produced songs....songs about places small and big....

And so.....I decided to record an album. Fortunately the right people where around to help me out at the right time. First: Peter Goodwyn (American): a drummer and recording engineer + undercover super hero. Next: Mike Dowding (Canadian): a base player who I had been playing with in another band for about 6 months. Peter and Mike play on All around the spot, Griffintown, Gravity, Has to be Finished, and Down on the Ground. Next: Jung Mina (Korean). Jung Mina is wonderful songwriter and composer who is well known in Korea for her original music on kiagem and voice. It was an honor to play with her sporadically during my time in Korea. Mina plays on All around the Spot, Lion on the Wall, Gravity, Down on the Ground, and the Quiet Wilderness. And last: Leia (American). Leia is a sweet singer who I met on beach with some russian sailors, and in one night convinced her to buy a ukelele. Leia sings on Down on the Ground.

Since all of the songs are about places (and I was far from my home, and folks that I knew and loved when I recorded the album) I made a postcard for each song. On the front of postcards are photoshopped collages of the places I sing about. On the back of the postcards are the names of the songs they are about + a place for a stamp and an address. So if you like the old-fashioned post you can make good use of the liner notes. Artist, Suh Bokyung helped me with design and layout for the postcards, as well as for the Cd. Suh Bokyung is a Korean artist who travels internationally with her art. We have worked together on two other projects in the years 2009-2010. I helped her with voice work for a gallery project, and she helped me with the album art for "Little strength" (the cd I recorded before leaving Montreal.)

A Beautiful Album
Thank you Cassie for this beautiful album. I can only describe the sound as heartwarming. From the vocals to the strings, each song has soul. Great job!
