ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
DE FAMILIA: The purity of tradition

As in many other cultures around the world, in the Lima of old, music emerged from its social environment: family and neighbourhood, the ‘barrio’. It arose spontaneously, naturally, and achieved its main purpose: to unite. The family thus serves both as school and seedbed; it is where the young learn directly from their elders. Families have been, and still are, the driving force behind tradition, and by transmitting their culture from one generation to the next, they ensure its continuity.
This production testifies to a ‘criollismo’ that is still alive, surviving as an organic culture, and distinguishing itself from what we usually see and hear commercially. This is why we resorted to THE FAMILY, the true source of this genre. The Valdelomar and Dávila families are two of the few remaining criollo dynasties still living, loving and preserving their culture.
