ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The writer and producer of this song and CD was born in the Midlands, England but grew up in London.

I wrote this song while thinking about how difficult it can be (especially for girls) to tell someone you really fancy them...I know a few people in this situation! Will this song motivate anyone to 'make that move'? (But please don't blame me if it doesn't go as planned!). The song is called "Now's The Time", and the genre is smooth R&B with a Rub-a-Dub remix.

The artist on the CD is Chetengé (pronounced Cheh-ten-gae), which means Mother of the Village.

Cheryle Clarke, a.k.a. Chetengé, was born in Mount Salem Montego Bay Jamaica, and attended Anchovy Secondary School in her native parish St James.

Chetengé is no stranger to the performance arena in Jamaica, she worked the Cabaret Circuit on the North Coast and Negril and has graced the stage at Sum-Fest and performed the opening act for the likes of Tony Rebel, Marcia Griffiths and Gregory Isaacs.

Chetengé is a versatile singer and performs not only the music of her homeland (REGGAE), but during her cabaret shows at places like Sandals, Beaches Negril, Montego Beach Resorts, Bascobel and Point Village Hotel, she regularly performs Ballads, Jazz, Country & Western and Pop songs to complete her repertoire. Chetengé has won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (J.C.D.C.) performing arts competition and one year was the parish champion in the Pop and Variety Contest. In 1998, she won the Montego Bay Song Competition.

In 1999 Chetengé decided to spread her wings far above the confines of Cabaret singing and participated in the National Festival Song Contest with her entry song “Born Inna J.A.”. She emerged the winner for best song and writer. She is the second female singer and composer to have won this competition since its inception in 1966.

Chetengé …Singer, Song Writer and Arranger has also co-produced her own debut ‘Roots & Culture’ album entitled “Borders”, a fusion of Afro Caribbean and Reggae music transcending barriers among people of all nations. "Borders" includes the track "Over Fifty" which has taken the Caribbean, New York and Florida by storm. Chetengé is ready for the International marketplace...She is strong, courageous and focused, and puts no boundaries on her hopes for tomorrow.

Check out her latest CD now! You won't be disappointed.

Catchy Song Recorded by a Talented Vocalist
“Now’s The Time” is the four-track CD single from female vocalist Chetengé that alternates between two genres that she clearly has her head around; smooth R&B and reggae. This single is broken down and remixed in four different ways – a smooth R&B vocal, an island reggae vocal, a hip-hop/R&B instrumental and a primarily instrumental reggae version with an occasional note or two from Chetengé. The song itself is catchy and clearly of single caliber, with the melodic chorus, “Now is the time to let my love be heard/I’ve been waiting in silence forever.” Chetengé’s vocals are versatile and sound natural when she matches both the R&B and reggae sounds. Chetengé produced this single herself and all four tracks are well-mixed and of excellent quality. “Now’s the Time (Rub-a-Dub Mix)” uses a traditional reggae beat that gives a nice, relaxing island feel. “Now’s the Time (Rnb Instrumental)” highlights Chetengé’s production skills as she takes a break from the vocals and lays down a nice hip-hop beat with R&B elements. As a CD single, “Now’s The Time” takes a catchy song and remixes it four times to show Chetengé’s vocal and production talents. For fans of female vocalists, smooth R&B and reggae, “Now’s The Time” to check out Chetengé.
