The concept behind this CD has it's roots in the way many vocalists and musicians from the 1940's through the 1960's commonly interacted to (1) hone their skills (2) measure their skills (3) develop new material and (4) simply have fun. It was not unusual to see Miles Davis sitting in on a Ella Fitzgerald set or Chris Curry joining Arthur Prysock on stage during one of his performances.
Over the past 15 years I've been able to create quite a few "Jam" sessions that included Isaac Hayes, Gerald LeVert, Ollie Woodson, The Manhattans, Me'lisa Morgan, Ray, Goodman & Brown, Blue Magic, Alyson Williams and many, many other R/B recording and performing artists. I continued this activity as a practical tool to enhance the vocal skills that my students learned in the classroom with my company, So You Want To Be A Star. The popularity and enjoyment of this audience participation monthly event led to the creation of this CD.
"Jammin' On The Mic with Chris Curry & Friends #2" takes you on pulsating musical journey that begins with a rendition of Frankie Beverly's "Before I Let Go" performed by Petwane and Ray, Goodman & Brown that will make you forget where you are and what you're doing. Alyson Williams' vocals on "The Bells" and her duet with Billy Brown of Ray, Goodman & Brown on "Feel The Fire" is worthy of a grammy nod. The musical arrangement of "Reasons" and vocals by Chris Curry and Kevin Owens is epic. And just when you thought that it couldn't get any better, James "D Train" Williams, Gerald Alston, The Force MD's and Meli'sa Morgan raises the bar on their renditions of "Let's Chill", "A Change Gonna Come", "My Girl", "Groovin", "Just My Imagination" and "Let's Start The Dance". Everything is tied neatly together by host comedian Capone. If you love good music and enjoy "LIVE" shows, then this CD will give you all of that and some.
I envision doing a series of these "Live Jam" sessions that will continue to be available to the public through
"Live" concerts, CD and DVD sales as well as creating a production for television. Future plans for the these various productions hopefully will include (but not limited to) Mary J. Blige, Joe, New Edition, Freddie Jackson, George Clinton, Martha Wash, Jerry Butler, R. Kelly, Valerie Simpson, Fantasia, Gladys Knight, Doug E. Fresh, Kurtis Blow, The Delfonics, Chris Brown, Sean Combs, Jay Z, Mos Def, Faith Evans, Anthony Hamilton, Little Anthony, The Teenagers, Bootsy Collins,
Jill Scott and others.
