Born in a small New England town, Christie Leigh grew up in a family that encouraged her creativity from a very young age. Her father’s rock and roll band rehearsed in the basement and Christie was the girl with her ear pressed to the door. It was no surprise she developed a love of classic sounds like country, rock and blues.
Throughout her childhood, Christie acted in local theatre groups, sang in the choir and competed in pageants. She began playing guitar at age 19 and soon started making her way to open mic nights. Christie’s first taste of songwriting came when she started writing funny songs to entertain her younger sister, Candice, who is in a wheelchair with cerebral palsy and legally blind. The two sisters were inseparable during their childhood and share an indescribable bond.
While attending Emerson College, Christie moved to Los Angeles to intern at a record label and soon started street performing on the 3rd Street Promenade to support herself. It was on the streets of Southern California that Christie really began to hone her chops as a performer. She started writing every day and soon recorded her first demo at a small studio in North Hollywood.
Upon returning to Boston, Christie started performing with her band, The Crooked Hearts. In 2005, she released her "Strange Little Story" EP and hit the road for an impressive three-week tour down the East Coast.
In 2007, Christie released an EP, "When You Need a Moment" for which the title track won numerous accolades and awards. She continued to perform hundreds of shows around New England with occasional small tours to New York and California.
Christie’s latest release is her most accomplished effort to date. Recorded and produced by Yan Perchuk in Nashville, TN. “Deep Down Damned” features 11 original songs that are catchy, honest and inspiring. The new album is available on iTunes on January 11th. 2013.
