ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Chuck Holdeman is a composer and an exponent of the French system bassoon, seldom heard outside France, and less so now, even there. Lyric Seasons is from 2000 when Chuck became the first recipient of a Master Artist Fellowship, awarded by the Delaware Division of the Arts. The work is dedicated to his step-daughter Becky Taylor, who also plays bassoon. The score is available from Trevcomusic. After its premiere which featured the harpist on this recording, Anne Sullivan, Chuck performed Lyric Seasons around the country, and also on occasion with piano. One of the latter was in April 2006 when Chuck was invited to play for the Congrès International du Basson in Reims, France, where his collaborator was pianist Reiko Nishimura. Later that month, back in America, Chuck recorded Lyric Seasons with Ms. Sullivan in the wonderful acoustics of Zion Lutheran Church in Wilmington, Delaware. Recorded on Protools with Rode NT5 mics, assisted by Marshall Taylor, Lyric Seasons was produced and edited by the composer. More info about Chuck Holdeman's work, including opera, songs, film and instrumental music is available at his website.
