Album Notes
It's Cowboy Music for the Christmas Holiday Season!

I’ve been performing a cowboy Christmas show for many years, yet making an album has always been a far away dream . . .

. . . Two days after Christmas, we had the biggest snowstorm of the year. You never know how long the snow will last in the Sierra Nevada. If I was ever going to make a Christmas album I would need a good cover shot & the time to go was now! I told Donna that I was going up the mountain. Of course, she thought I was crazy. Then I told her I was taking Silverado; now there was no doubt, she knew I was crazy. She said, “If you go, you’d better come back with a good photo or else!” After two days in the Sierra snow I came home with at least a couple good shots. I went up the mountain with a dream, I came down with six new songs; three of them are on this album.

The album you will be holding in your hands is the result of that dream . . . riding through soft & drifted snow . . . Along the Christmas Trail.

Cisco Jim has written some memorable songs for this album. "Day Before the Day Before Christmas" is a humorous look at trying to find just the right gift at the last moment (something we've all experienced far too often); "Sing Along it's Christmas Time" was inspired while riding his horse across snow covered trails in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. "Love is the Way" is a tender retelling of the Nativity and the future that it inspires. This album also includes traditional cowboy classics, buckaroo ballads, Western swing, and contemporary cowboy Christmas songs. "Cowboys' Christmas Ball", by Larry Chittenden, tells about a dance that took place in a little Texas cowtown about 100 years ago. A feller takes the long way to return home in "The Christmas Trail", a Badger Clark poem set to music. Cisco's wide vocal range & versatility pay strong tribute to a couple of Michael Martin Murphy songs, "Corn, Water, & Wood" and "Christmas on the Line". Some of our favorite singing cowboys are represented: Tex Williams, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Tex Ritter, & Jimmy Wakely, to name just a few. There are some fine Western Swing pieces too: "The Winter Song", "Christmas Carols by the Old Corral", "It's Christmas!", & a few others. "Angel on Top of My Christmas Tree", the only love song on the album & originally recorded by Farron Young . . . this ballad is a tender swooner. Cisco Jim's powerful & sensitive rendition of "O Holy Night", recorded in the hauntingly resonant Old Spanish Mission of San Juan Bautista, has moved more than a few listeners to tears. This Christmas . . . head out Along the Christmas Trail . . . let yourself be transported.
