ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
LEMBRANÇAS is Clare Fischer's first recording for the Concord Picante label. His compositions "Morning" and "Pensativa" are by now considered standards, in this idiom and have graced a number of Concord recordings. In view of his close association with Cal Tjader and other Latin masters, introducing his first Picante recording seems more like welcoming him home.
Presenting Clare Fischer to new listeners is a privilege I enjoy every working day. Each weekday morning I happily take my place in the center of one of the world's largest record collections. There, with all the wonderful possibilities this situation offers, I look forward most to the moment when I can share some music that represents another facet of Clare's marvelous abilities as a performer, composer or arranger.
This is typical of the kind of grass roots support and appreciation that has brought Clare's arranging skills to as diverse a list of patrons as Donald Byrd, Dizzy Gillespie, George Shearing, Chaka Khan with Rufus, The Jacksons, DeBarge, The Hi-Lo's, Singers Unlimited, Paul McCartney, Robert Palmer, and Prince.
It is Clare's approach to harmonic voicings that gives his music such a unique character. Advancements in electronic keyboards only open more vistas for Clare's "orchestral" style of playing. As you will hear, his harmonies shift from tension to release like a gull soaring effortlessly to catch each new breeze. There is a sorcerer's astonishing magic here as Clare leads our imaginations breathlessly from one illusion to the next. His music is truly a kaleidoscope for the ears and a balm for the heart.
Clare has long had a deep affection for the vibrancy of Latin rhythms. Here on Lembranças he has tastefully combined his appreciation of harmony and rhythm to conjure up a gallery rich with beautiful, joyful, sensitive and uplifting remembrances.
Please join me, and the many thousands of other Clare Fischer supporters, in welcoming this creation from a favorite of ours. And like us, please share the experience with others.

George Mitchell

A Beautiful Clare Fischer recording!
With gorgeous songs like "Fina", "Coco B."," Endlessly" and great players such as son Brent on bass, Dick Mitchell, flute and soprano sax, Tris Imboden, drums, Machito Sanchez and Luis Conte on percussion, this CD is a winner. I have quite a few Clare Fischer recordings on vinyl and CD and this ranks among the best. I love this music and believe you will too.

Take Lessons in Latin
One ought never listen to Clare Fischer's music in the background - until perhaps one has already heard it many times over - otherwise the some of the many hidden treasures may remain undiscovered. Each time I listen to this one I hear new things that must have always been there but were not staring me in the face. Dr Fischer found a unique voice in his Latin explorations and this recording shows some of the many vistas and moods he could evoke - contrast the evocative 'Endlessly' or the gentle 'Gilda' with the brighter ones like 'Fina'and 'Coco'. His complex rhythms and meters and special harmonies are everywhere on this recording. Clare could inject great complexity into his melodies and the harmonies underneath them, yet they would emerge with their own charm and stand up on their own as very singable melodies. There is a great deal of understated greatness in this Fischer recording...fine ensemble playing from players intimately involved in Clare's musical conceptions, including his young son Brent on bass... there is fine playing from Clare himself on various keyboards... and special mention for Dick Mitchell's marvellous flute soloing. This is an understated recording of some of the finest Latin Clare Fischer creations. A must-have recording for the seasoned a-Fisch-ionado and a very listenable one to start with for the uninitiated listener.

My favorite Clare Fischer recording for many years!
This CD is an absolute delight from beginning to end. The songs are stunningly beautiful, the performance from these musicians is stellar, and the recording quality ranks among the best I've heard from Clare. This is a "desert island" CD for me (I've practically worn my copy out), and will guarantee to lift your spirits and stimulate your mind at the same time! Check it out...
