ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Coalescence is a group of close friends who share a musical vision. The band members of Coalescence were featured on Kenny Shanker’s debut release for Posi-Tone records, Steppin’ Up, which received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and listeners. Although Shanker wrote all of the original material for that recording, everyone in the band contributed their ideas during the recording process to help bring the music to life.

Bassist, Yoshi Waki began bringing in some of his original music to the band’s live performances and it added a new dimension to the sound of the group. His writing provided a contrast to the existing material, and inspired the other musicians to contribute their own songs to the repertoire.

Brian Fishler has always been an outstanding, creative drummer, but only recently has begun to focus on his considerable writing talents. With the three different writing styles of Yoshi, Brian, and Kenny, the group began to have an entirely different sound. All of the musicians were so happy with the new direction that they decided to record this new exciting blend of styles. The result is Coalescence.

Not to be overlooked are the outstanding performances of pianist, Mike Eckroth and guitarist, Daisuke Abe. Daisuke also brought in his hauntingly beautiful tune Untouched, for this recording.

As the band continues to coalesce, the group looks forward to exploring and expanding its unique sound and vision.
