Though Cold Creek is technically a “new” band, the members of the group have been playing together for many years. Bill, Drew and Andrea were all members of the 2002 national band champion McKenzie Bridge. Blaine was a founding member of the acclaimed group Gift Horse and Bill joined the group in 2003. They were later joined in that band by Drew and Nate. These outstanding musicians have now joined together to form the best Bluegrass band in Utah.
The music of Cold Creek is high-energy and high-quality. They blend traditional and modern Bluegrass styles, resulting in true Bluegrass music that is a joy to experience. Their instrumentals are precise and driving, leaving listeners breathless, while their ballads touch the heart with tales of love and longing. Their music affects an amazing range of listeners, from children who enjoy the upbeat tempos and instruments to old-timers who are reminded about the good old days. Their progressive form of Bluegrass is also increasingly popular with young adults, who equate their style with that of Alison Krauss and Ricky Scaggs.
But perhaps the greatest aspect of Cold Creek’s music is that it reflects the all-American traditions and values from which Bluegrass was born. Their performances are rousing reminders of days when joy and family and fun were more common. As one listener said, “This music just makes you want to get up and move.”
Cold Creek is made up of the following musicians:
Bill Sprunger - guitar, lead vocals
Blaine Nelson - banjo, harmony vocals
Nate Olson - fiddle, harmony vocals
Drew Williams - bass, mandolin, lead vocals (on Shady Grove), harmony vocals
