COLD JOON is a high energy ‘Culture-Pop’ ensemble that combines traditional West African rhythms with pop, r&b and reggae influences. Live shows feature costumed dancers, jimbes, ‘Anti-Georgie’ songs and positive, conscious lyrics.
This CD, the first Cold Joon studio release from 1996, features Senegalese jimbe star, Malick Sow.
Songs include ‘1726 Mali Empire’ a song about the origin of the popular jimbe (djembe) drum, ‘Brasil Comin’, a tribute to the 1994 World Cup champions and a Bob Marley tribute song, ‘Tuff Gong Go’. ‘Cubegal’ is a track that combines traditional Cuban and Senegalese rhythms.
This CD also includes the original version of Cold Joon’s signature song, ‘Buzz On’.
Later Cold Joon recordings have morphed in to a more funky, modern sound but this is where it all began. The cultural references and authentic rhythms are extensive on this album and it remains the favorite of many Cold Joon enthusiasts.
