Colleen Athparia is an internationally recognized pianist, both as a solo and chamber musician, and as a recording artist with 6 solo and 3 chamber CD recordings, premiering and recording numerous contemporary Canadian works written especially for her. Heralded by the National Post she is considered one of the top four Canadian pianists of contemporary music today.
Colleen has toured as a performer and guest instructor from Mexico to Russia, Morocco to the Far East. Her background includes a Master of Music degree with distinction from Indiana University, as well as receiving the gold medal and placing first in the Canadian Music Competition. She has been an active member of “Ensemble Resonance”, Calgary’s contemporary chamber ensemble for 15 years.
A dedicated teacher on MRU Conservatory Faculty, many of her students have won national and international competitions and two have been listed in the CBC’s Hot Top 30 classical musicians in Canada under 30 this year. She also continues to be a Senior Examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music since 1980 and an active adjudicator.
In 2009 Colleen was among the top 50 performers honoured in Ottawa for her significant contribution to the Canadian Music Scene over the past 50 years.
