ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
My music is the culmination of the years I spent crawling through the darkness biting and scratching for any kind of hope for myself. I was taught growing up that everyone goes to work, comes home, feeds the kids, cleans the house and goes to bed.

For years I struggled by myself trying to hone my skills and slowly progress as a one man band with virtually no budget to actually acquire the gear most people think they need to record an album. It paid off, and after enough time had passed I finished my first album... Yet when I come out of my cave and gaze around I find a sea of musicians pandering to become one of the fake, bloated television idiots that are no more musicians than they are actors, playing their roles in the commercials for the products they are trying to sell.

What has music become? Is this it? Are the children of today destined to grow up considering music no more valuable than a meal at McDonald's? Will companies like Viacom convince everyone that music is supposed to be this nifty little package that all looks and sounds the same? If I want to get signed to a record deal do I send a demo, or a resume? The artist and the employee used to be different things.

I made 'Subnormal' using nothing but a budget studio mic, a decent guitar, a 1983 Yamaha DX7 keyboard, my computer, and years of practice. Other than that my current occupation is as a waiter.

Want something different, yet familiar?...
This album ranges from howling anger to subdued melancholy and most of the dark shades between. Lots of time and care were put into the well written and performed songs and the attention definitely pays off. Enough of that though. What are you doing reading this still? You should be listening to the album as that is where the real payoff is...

Subnormal
Subnormal, by Commercial Friendly, is a very professionally-done album. It has great minor mode chords and a driving beat. The variety in the album allows many different kinds of tastes to be satisfied. My favorite track is "Given", but I have enjoyed the entire album and it is on my iPod.

Original sound
Commerical Friendly has created a unique sound that is quite different from and, frankly, much more interesting than the typical industrial stuff that seems to be featured on radio stations. The songs are diverse, catchy, and truly rock. The music sells the listener by itself, and the thoughtful and insightful lyrics act as the metaphorical icing on the cake. The album will utimately leave you longing for a sequel.
