Conlan Miller, 16, of Delta, Utah, has studied piano with Dr. Irene Peery-Fox of Brigham Young University since April of 2001. He won First Prize in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Senior Piano Competition in the state of Utah, and was selected as the first alternate in the Southwest Division of MTNA. He has earned First and Third Prizes in the Utah State Fair Music Competition. He has also recieved First Prize twice in the Encore Keyboard Competition, and has won First and Second Prizes in METTA Ensemble Competitions. He was recognized as an outstanding performer in the Encore Concerto Festival. At age 12, he received an Honorable Mention in the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition in Denver, Colorado.
At the invitation of Associate Conductor, Scott O’Neil, Conlan was a guest artist and actor in the 2005 Beethoven Alive! musical drama with the Utah Symphony at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City. Conlan also performed Rachmaninoff’s Second Concerto with the Utah Symphony in May of 2006.
Conlan has performed with other orchestras, such as the Southwest Symphony, the Utah Valley Symphony, and the American Fork Symphony. Solo performances have included the Temple Square Concert Series in the Assembly Hall as winner of the Mu Phi Epsilon Award, being featured as a soloist in the 2005 Utah South Area Youth Spectacular broadcast at Southern Utah University, and multiple solo recitals.
