Mentalmorphosis - EP

by Joshua Cooley

Progressive, deep, artful rock. This music will make you think and paint a picture in your head. My music requires more than listening-- you must actually feel it in order to entirely absorb it. Prepare to enter a new dimension.

Album Notes
Joshua Cooley, solo artist, Temecula Ca. With drums done by Brady Connors.

I believe in music that requires patience, music that builds on itself over a period of time often longer than the three minutes and thirty seconds so common of modern pop and rock today. My philosophies are based off of the true genius of all music, which is classical music, which generally has no lyrics, and the music spans over a long period of time, creating highs and lows, moments of happiness, sadness, confusion, anger and other mixed emotions. I strive to fuse this aspect of music with rock, and to create a sound and feeling that no other artist has been able to capture before.

My song "Tinnitus" frequently confuses people, and is either praised as my best song to certain people who can understand and appreciate it, and criticized as my worst at the same time. If you are confused by this song, the first thing I have to say is--good. Look into it a little deeper, discover the definition of what Tinnitus is, and let me paint a picture for you of my daily suffering with it.

I encourage you to approach music from different angles, different lights. Analyze lyrics, not just for my music, but for all music that inspires you, music is a form of poetry and lyrics are the foreground of this poetry, I believe lyrics are far too discounted today for as long as "the beat is good" then no-one seems to care otherwise. I hope you enjoy my little creation, if I receive enough positive feedback I will invest more of the money I don't have into professionally producing more.

Mentalmorphosis isn't just the title, it's the evolution of music
Let me ask you a question, have you listened to an album in recent memory that has made you think differently, view the world differently, and feel you almost like you're at one with yourself? Probably not, not many bands in these modern days have been able to do that. Joshua Cooley is one of those new musicians that has pulled this off with his EP Mentalmorphosis. Through out the album, his songs have somewhat of an upbeat tone, with lyrics that some personal effects on the listener, encouraging one to look within themselves for self-identity and the understanding of themselves. With his Maynard James Keenan like style of singing, his vocals are moving, being one of the best of that kind of vocalization style. His guitar playing alone takes you to a different part of the world, laying you to rest with his melodic and rhythmic riffs. Joshua Cooley in my opinion, is one of those musicians who could be the future of music altogether. Listening to his album puts me in another place, like as if I was staring outside of a window while rain softly hits against the window. If you want a good listen, doesn't matter what kind of music you are into, this artist can appeal to the masses, so sit down, relax, and enjoy the progressive mood music of Joshua Cooley.
