The Cotton Club, lying in the heart of Amsterdam, the Nieuwmarkt, is Holland’s oldest and most loved jazz café. For over sixty years young and old, rich and poor, black and white, listeners and dancers meet here weekly to enjoy their favourite music: live jazz. What connects people in The Cotton Club, audience and artists likewise, is their unconditional devotion to this form of free musical expression.
For the last few years “The Cotton Club All Stars” have been the regular house band. The trio: Dirk Balthaus on piano, Anton Drukker on bass and Dick Verbeeck on drums are joined by four different horn players that belong to the best Holland has to offer you: Dick de Graaf, Efraïm Trujillo, Guus Crommelin and Jorg Kaaij.
Because of the musical qualities of the trio and the horn players, because of the choice of the repertoire and because of the informal setting in which the recording took place, you will be experiencing the unique atmosphere of a live concert at The Cotton Club. Just like in The Cotton Club you will find a tasteful alternation between standards and originals, lyricism and hard swinging, up tempos and ballads, swing and latin. We invite everybody to enjoy this music in his or her own personal way: listen, dance and sing with us on this “Amsterdam Jam” and hopefully we will soon meet you “live” on a Saturday afternoon at The Cotton Club!
