Album Notes

"For an artist to come full circle in range with rhythmic vocals along with flawless precision in a single cut is special. Thus describes the craft of Cris Barber as for the third time this artist has released a smooth and genuinely exquisite production titled Comes Loves. Feminine is the performance, her tones rich and expressions that carry a true cool mystique."
-- Karl Stober, international freelance columnist, JazzReview

My review is more of a recommendation... BUY THE CD!
Just when you thought jazz great Cris Barber couldn't get any better... she comes out with her new #1 CD "Comes Love"... this time she takes you from the sun (East of the Sun") to Louisiana ("Louisiana Sunday Afternoon"). My review is more of a recommendation.... buy the CD... get a bottle of wine (candles optional), and share your best friend with Cris.

You have the "IT" factor
Scheduled and played track 1 of your great CD "Comes Love". In my opinion you have the "IT" factor within your music and it is a pleasure to feature you in my programs. "Keep on Keeping on"... and please keep me up to date with your progress as I will be promoting your work here "Down under" in Australia.

Very rich, velvety vocal style
Prior to giving this disc a listen, I was not aware of the recorded work by Ms. Barber, but I intend to follow her career more closely in the future. This is a very solid vocal collection. Ms. Barber gives evidence of a very rich, velvety vocal style with a nice degree of husky undertone. I approach new jazz female vocals with a bit of trepidation these days, as there seems to be a few too many who are deliberately trying to trod the hallowed ground of Diana Krall. However, my fears were soon put to rest. I am particularly impressed with the choice of material. Ms. Barber has selected an eclectic mix of tunes, with a couple of standards thrown in for good measure. A stellar backing band comprised of dynamite LA studio pros. Well done.

Cris Barber: a name to watch
My feedback on "Comes Love" is : Unlike many of the trendy jazz singers now flooding the market, Cris Barber is a real jazz vocalist - singing in tune with good rhythm and genuine jazz feeling. And the backings are excellent. Cris Barber: a name to watch (even if her name sounds disconcertingly like the British trad jazzman Chris Barber!).

Jacques Emond - CKCU-FM Radio Canada

Delightful album from start to finish
This is a delightful album from start to finish. The smooth voice of the singer is perfect for the diverse repertoire she elected to sing. I like that she kept the scat at a minimum, a device that, in my opinion, is greatly overused by female vocalist these days. I look forward to her next release.

One of the best vocal jazz records I have heard this year.
Dear Friends, One of the best vocal jazz records I have heard this year. Excellent. I retransmite more than once on my "Jazz Cafe" radio program. All in it is perfect: the sweet and swingin voice, the musicians, the jazz standards. I want a "Comes Love II". High recomendation for anyone who loves jazz music. Miss Cris Barber is a very good jazz lady. For me it's a great honour to present to the Argentine audience. Congratulations.
