Crosspulse and Artistic Director Keith Terry celebrates the release of our first CD for Kids & their Families
A wonder-producing quintet — they drum, they dance, they chant, they slap and pat their torsos and limbs, they make visual music that fills a room with physical excitement. —San Francisco Bay Guardian
Keith Terry (Jazz, Body Music) with Evie Ladin (Appalachian), Omar Ledezma (Afro-Cuban), Tacuma King (West African) and Amber Hines (African-American).
Part international drill team, part polycultural rhythm section, Crosspulse Percussion Ensemble weaves the oldest musical instrument, the human body, with instrumental webs of hand drums, bells, clavé, bass, banjo, voice, found sound and more. Each of the members bring their own deep traditions of the African Diaspora to collaborate on the many ways African music and dance are a part of cultures throughout the Americas, and at home in Oakland, California. After two decades of educational outreach and programming including concerts, workshops, and residencies, Crosspulse Percussion Ensemble has produced their first CD of children's music, an album that the whole family will enjoy! CD recorded with special guests the St Paul School 5th grade choir, Oakland, California.
Finally I found music I can dance to and snap my fingers to and sing to! It was marvelously good.
—Deron, fourth grade student
