”The charactor of the music style presented gives this CD (Uncovered) a unique feel, with an individual personality presented inside it's contents. Great work, and we sure look forward to hearing from you in the future...” Graham,

”Basinet has a powerhouse of a voice; she can be seductive when she wants to be and effectively woeful if the lyrics call for it. Even if you'll hate her because she's beautiful, you'll love her because her singing will knock your socks off.”

”Unquestionably, Cynthia's voice is one of the most striking and sparkling voices in the world of American Standards. It is an oasis of luxurious vocal beauty, magnetizing sensuality and warmth. This singer is the real thing!” - ENTERTAINMENT: DIVAS, CABARET, JAZZ THEN AND NOW (book)

”Cynthia Basinet is an actress and as evidenced by this record a terrific singer as well. Her collection is very varied in nature and takes in several styles; opener Just is a blue aching ballad with heavy reverb. Jazz standard Someone to Watch Over Me follows that and is beautifully sung. The seasonal Santa Baby is sung sexily and has been mistaken for a recording by Marilyn Monroe. She never sang the song back then, that was Eartha Kitt. The less we say of Madonna s miserable version the better it is. Here ms. Basinet gives it her all alongside a nice little male backing part. Water s Edge is coolly sung torch, style that she excels at. Yellow Taxi (no, not the Joni song) is a neat little dance number. Basinet s album is very diverse but it all holds together thanks to her vocal talent.” —

For Cynthia Basinet, her voice itself is an instrument; in terms of emotional power, it's a lethal weapon. Sensual, emotionally damaged and world-weary, Basinet's vocals have the makings of a film noir femme fatale. Her midnight blue voice on The Collection can conjure black and white images of ill-fated romance, especially on Just and Eventually. Set to a crestfallen piano backdrop, Eventually expresses deep-seated feelings of love lost; the heartbreaking ache in her vocals reveals real, honest pain. However, melancholia is only side of Basinet's persona. In this compilation of her work, she juggles with light and darkness. The giddy sweetness of her cover of Santa Baby is miles apart from the fresh wounds of Haunted Heart. Furthermore, the electronica tracks Yellow Taxi and God unveil a completely different side of her artistry. For those not familiar with Basinet's previous recordings, such varied elements might seem confusing. But this is a career retrospective, after all, and the most exciting musicians are the unpredictable ones. Nevertheless, it's obvious where Basinet's strengths are. On the slower songs, where Basinet can croon her heart's desires, she has a commanding presence. Her version of the oft-covered Someone To Watch Over Me has undeniable charm; her voice truly soars, dripping with sultry yearning. Because of Basinet's background as a model and actress, there are some who probably won't take her music seriously. However, even the most skeptical will have a hard time resisting the gripping drama of Water's Edge. —
