Album Notes
A mysterious cassette-only artist who began putting out material on tape in the late 1980s, although some of it started to appear on CD in the late 1990s. His music is haunting, acoustic rock with a sense of British whimsy akin to Robyn Hitchcock or Donovan. - All Music Guide

"Richie Unterberger's book, Unknown Legend of Rock and Roll, got me hooked on the lesser known psychedelic bands like Aisha Kandisha's Jarring Effects, Love, United States Of America, and The Bluethings. Last year, I came across a page on Unterberger's website and saw Damien Youth's Sunfield and Surprise Symphony albums listed along side Aisha Kandisha's Jarring Effects debut record in an All Time Favorite Top Ten Cult Rock Albums of the 1990s list. I searched for online reviews of Damien Youth albums and found writers comparing him to Syd Barrett, Donovan, and other obscure UK psychedelic bands. I'd been obsessed with British psychedelic groups like Kaleidoscope, Tintern Abbey, and The Move since 2000 and felt excited that a contemporary artist was loving the same sounds that I was. I tracked down some songs from Sunfield through a friend and played Susie Cinnamon at least fifty times in one week on my car and home stereos. It's one of the catchiest psychedelic pop songs that I've ever heard, and I've tried my hardest to search for them all." - From Richter Atmosphere from 90.3 FM KDVS Magazine.

"Often placid on the surface, Damien Youth's lyrics frequently conceal ambiguity and disturbance that can be startling"- From Westcoast writer Ritchie Unterberger.

"And here he is, the real star of the book, right at the end of it all. Edgar Allen Poe just picked up a guitar." -From Mick Mercer a U.K. writer/ From The Book "THE HEX FILES".

"Damien Youth's songs are like yellowed pictures from another time. But as it's true with old pictures they come alive - contradictingly so - out of the yellowness, colours seep through - clear and imagination invoking, like a DALI painting." -From Peter Sjoblom, writer for the Swedish Magazine GROOVE.

"Damien Youth is an independent singer/songwriter/musician who works in a number of rock sub-genres. He has been a part of various musical projects including The Cosmic Cult Of Adam Strange, Featherbox, Kyte, Magic Island, Surprise Symphony and Walter Ghoul's Lavender Brigade. He has also recorded with Peter Daltrey of the classic '60s band Kaleidoscope. The common quality in all of Damien Youth's music is his uncanny understanding of the melodic heart of the song." - From Nick Benson, Writer for THE BROKEN FACE magazine.

holy balls
this record is great. On this cd you can find some feel good tunes, and some of the saddest and inspired songs you'll ever hear. I can't get enough. Buy this album now. What are you waiting for? Now. Buy it. You'll thank me, god, and DY later.

absolutely superb
This is my first Damien Youth CD, and it certainly will not be my last. It is a stellar record.

Stellar cd from an incredible artist.
This cd has a great mix of original psych songs, melodies, and lryics, by an incredible talented musician/poet/artist. I got lost in "Rooms Of December."

Psych pop bliss!
Damien Youth hits psych pop bliss once again here!
References to Robyn Hitchcock and influences from the early, 1960's Bee Gees,to the obvious Beatles, all the way to Hunky Dory era Bowie all show their soundz in the best of ways!

Go to his web-site next and be amazed at his prolific music output most of us have missed. If you start here ,you'll be hooked.............and I say GOOD FOR YA!

I am a long-time fan of Damien Youth and was entirely pleased with his release, "Phantoms of Fables". The man simply is incapable of releasing anything sub-par, and this album is proof of that! Lyrically I believe this to be his best release, especially the song, "Red Ghost Mother" And it is equally musically poignant and atmospheric. Fantastic album, through and through!

I heard Damien Youth when he was in the group "Featherbox." That was in 1996. I bought the cd at the bar the band "Featherbox" had been playing at. The cd was so good...someone, I will not mention names, stole the cd. I still wish I had that cd, but at the same time I cannot blame him. If Damien Youth reads this please send me another cd...of course I will pay. That is the best cd I ever heard. Also, it reminds me of a great time in New Orleans, and my Doberman, Sasha, who I adopted in New Orleans. She passed away but her spirit lives on in those songs. The cd I just purchased Phantoms of Fables," is just as great. But the memories of 1996, and Featherbox will live on. My ph# (941) 726-5211 Thanks Damien.
