ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"We Are Large" is my second CD as a leader. It has eleven original tracks that present my unique take on what jazz is. What does that mean? In today's music world, labels get thrown around all the time. It is hard to keep up, so to "give it to you straight" my music emphasizes melody, groove and communication. Four reasons why you should care: 1) you get to hear "Hill Country", my Salute to the year I spent in Houston, TX. 2) check out Adam, Nate, Tim, and Evan (Bios below). 3) someone once said my music had personality (See review). 4) someone also once said "you done wrong by me my man" (See website).

I hope you enjoy the sample tracks. Below is some bio information. Thanks for stopping.

Damon

DAMON ZICK (SAXOPHONE) was born and raised in Seattle before heading to the East Coast in 1993. He spent four years studying at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York where he studied saxophone, jazz and composition before heading south to Miami Beach to join the New World Symphony. Since then Damon has performed concerts with his own groups in Europe, Australia and throughout the United States. He has performed with such jazz artists as Joe LaBarbera, Vinny Golia, Lee Konitz, Joe Henderson, Ralph Alessi, Gerry Hemingway and Bob Mintzer. He now resides in Los Angeles where he completed a Masters degree in Jazz Winds from the California Institute of the Arts. Besides his performing schedule, Damon is active as a clinician and teacher presenting Master classes at colleges and universities around the U.S.

TIM ALBRIGHT (TROMBONE) originally from San Francisco has turned a lot of heads since moving to New York in 1994. He recently recorded two CD’s and toured Europe as trombonist with Steve Coleman and the Council of Balance. He has toured North America with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and performed with the Woody Herman Orchestra. Since graduating from the Eastman School of music with both classical performance and jazz studies degrees, Tim has performed and/or recorded with Steve Coleman, Don Byron, Ralph Alessi, Ravi Coltrane and the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra. Besides his jazz interests, Tim was a featured soloist with the touring production of the hit Broadway musical Fosse.

ADAM BENJAMIN (FENDER RHODES, PIANO) is a native New Yorker. He was educated at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. He has had the privilege of performing with jazz greats such as Charlie Haden, Dave Douglas, Bob Brookmeyer and Benny Carter, and enjoyed tours of Europe and television appearances with modern rock band Ear 2000. In addition to Damon Zick and Friends, Adam performs with Kneebody, leads the Adam Benjamin Trio, and self-produces a series of Multi-Media Solo Piano Mega-Events.

EVAN CONWAY (BASS) is another California native. He is a graduate of Cal Arts and a protégé of Charlie Haden. In Los Angeles he performs with a variety of jazz and rock groups including the Winter Flowers. He is currently producing a short film starring Stud Manly, and maintains a website www.iunderstandyou.com.

NATE WOOD (DRUMS) graduated from the California Institute of the Arts, where he studied with Jazz greats such as Charlie Haden and Joe LaBarbera. Since graduating Nate has toured the world many times over with pop/rock band The Calling. Nate has also had the privilege of working with such acts as Chaka Khan, Melvin Davis (Chaka's virtuoso bass player), Bob Sheppard, Darek Oles, Tom Scott as well as many of L.A.'s smooth jazz luminaries. On top of being an active session player, Nate has recently completed his first solo album featuring his own compositions and him playing all the instruments.

The heavies get large and the ladies are in charge!
The tunes, the sweet tunes on the recording smack experience and virtuosity onto the listeners face with a class all it's own. I'm loving these sweet leads more with each listen. The Zick's sax leads this band through more twists and turns than a hot date with a super hot chic. Rock it yo?!
