ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Product Description
The Color of Light blends 15 tracks of idyllic artistry featuring piano soloist, Dana Cunningham’s original compositions and improvisations. Among her distinctively lyrical solo works are a number of pieces enhanced with instrumental textures and contemporary structures. Featured Grammy Award-winning artists include cellist, Eugene Friesen, percussionist, Glen Velez, and Will Ackerman, on guitar. Within the contemplative nature of Dana\'s previous works, the result is a surprisingly powerful and evocative album radiating with liberating colors, textures, line, and space as remarkable as any natural vista or visual work of art. The Color of Light is required listening for peacekeepers, contemplative listeners, as well as classical, and jazz aficionados.

About the Artist
Contemporary instrumentalist Dana Cunningham invites you sit beside her Steinway and listen as she takes you on a journey inspired by the colors of the day, the night, and what she discovers between twilight and dusk. That her music is fresh and engaging opens the door to Cunningham becoming one of the leading female soloists of the 21st century. Dana has a degree in Communication from Vanderbilt University where she also studied piano at Blair School of Music. Since 1998 she has been living and composing in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Editorial Reviews
”… a rare recent work that not only sounds beautiful, but also evokes emotional journeys. As a film producer, I know how hard it is to inspire emotion in an audience.
Clark Peterson, Producer of Academy Award-winning film, “Monster”

“…so wedded with her instrument that she weaves a magic spell over her audience. At the completion of each piece, there is a period of silence, almost to the point that one wonders if applause is forthcoming. Of course there is – hearty and long, almost reverential. It’s that the audience has been lost in serene reverie.”
Conway Daily Sun

\"... simply the most impressive work of composition and performance I have heard from a pianist in twenty years. That the music connects on such a deep emotional level and is so accessible only makes it more remarkable.\"
Will Ackerman, Founder of Windham Hill

“Deeply emotional and full of grace, Cunningham’s music exudes warmth and calm. A gorgeous collection of original pieces and improvisations that create a setting for contemplation and presence….excellent from start to finish. It is sure to be one of my favorite CDs for 2007!”
Solo Piano Publications

“There is a directness of purpose and communication in Cunningham’s technique… she gets to the heart of her compositions to create soulful moments rich in feeling and contemplation.”
Stereo Times

“Very rare is the musician whose music can create a sense of quiet and peace.”

Tamara Turner, CD Baby

Featuring Grammy Award-winning artists including cellist, Eugene Friesen, percussionist, Glen Velez, and Will Ackerman, on guitar, The Color of Light is no predictable new age piano album. While one can expect to be transported to spacious and serene worlds of lush and tender reverberating piano, mapping out limitless terrestrial sound worlds, Dana’s delicate and deliberate playing sparks a uniquely colorful conversation between her musical voice and those joining her. With jazz harmonies creeping in from time to time and an evocative and imaginative classical minimalism that might be compared to George Winston, there is a sense of great prosperity and emotional generosity far beyond what is typical for the genre. Each of these fifteen tracks seem to pour from a wellspring of universal knowledge and natural abundance. Much like how the earth comes back to life in the spring and into its fullest expression in summer, The Color of Light evokes a sense of quickening, of something on the verge of becoming, of long-awaited catharsis and fruition.

Amazing, as usual
Dana's music continues to evolve, as she does as a person. I have been intimately involved in experiencing Dana's music for 25 years, and she always suprises me. The Color of Light is incredible, rich, varied and mature. Adding the guitar and other artists only enriches her work. I am proud to know her and thrilled with her accomplishment in this new CD

The Color of Light
A few years ago I lost my sight. Those of who are blind have an opportunity to travel deeply because we aren't distracted by outer beauty. Or
atleast that's my case. This album, supports the inward journey and gives me glimpes of the beauty that I hold in my heart's eye now. Thank you.
Love to us all, Moe R.

A melodic journey that will inspire thought and emotion
Wherever you are, you will be transformed to peaceful surroundings. Thoughts will calm and emotion will rise. A journey that you will want to repeat, time and time again. Oh sweet music, raise me up. If my heart had wings it would fly.

Practical: reduces road rage, job stress and Democracy Now despair!
I listen to the Color of Light in my car. If I am on my way to leading a workshop, or have had my fill of depressing news, or have just come from a difficult or even fabulous but frenetic event I will listen to Dana's CDs and be calmed in a deep, real way. My breathing slows and comes from deeper in my body, my shoulders relax, I feel more ready to tranistion and take on whatever is next.

The Color of Light
This CD was just what I had hoped it would be. It is very soothing and lovely. It will help tame the wild middle school students that come into my office. It will also soothe my soul.

Dana's music soothes, comforts and renews the soul; exquisite.
The Color of Light gently reconnects me to the beauty and magic of life. Each piece is unique and can be played over and over again without disappointment. Dana's brilliant and profound talent has created this masterpiece for all the world. Experience its peace and joy.

With a collection of thousands of albums, this one gets played more often than m
My mother suddenly died in February and with my grief came great difficulty in sleeping or relaxing. A few minutes of immersing myself in The Color of Light helped me find the peace and beauty that I needed to get to another day. I have shared this album with friends who are fighting cancer or grieving like me and everyone has found some healing strength in this beautiful music. Even with my diverse tastes in music, this has become one of my favorites and gets played quite often.
