Daniel Crossing was formed in Cape Town, South Africa in 2012. It is the recording name of singer-songwriter André Daniels. Daniel Crossing performs in Cape Town, South Africa, and is currently working on an EP, due for release in June 2013.
Daniel Crossing’s music is Christian contemporary pop & gospel rock. Other material that will be included on the debut EP will be gospel soul, hip-hop rock and a country rock duet – the EP will display the songwriter’s flexibility in songwriting and musical influences.
Daniel Crossing's music is slowly but surely hitting SA radio - in 2012 the music was playlisted on Radio Tygerberg (Cape Town) and Radio Pulpit (national). In Jan 2013 Lights was playlisted on Radio Rippel 90.5 (Pretoria)! "We're very excited about 2013 - there is a lot of work to do, but also a lot of fun to be had while we do it!" says André about the plans for 2013.

Track info ...
Lights is pop rock. The flavour of the song was borne out of years spent at the radio, listening to the sounds of U2, Jon Bon Jovi, Alanis Morisette, The Cranberries, Whitney Houston, Wham!, Madonna, Mariah Carey, lots of jazz and a good measure of R&B. Throw in a few years of singing backing vocals at Rhema church young adults band in Randburg, singing tenor in an opera chorus from Hermanus to Retreat, and doing musicals at Artscape and surrounds, and the chorus of Lights goes into a high tenor. “The vocal had to follow the lyric. When I wrote Lights I was singing into the dark skies above and felt that the vocal could go just as high into that darkness.”
You are, on the other hand, is a culmination of a desire to write a song giving God honour and using a choir. “I’ve always loved choirs – they just create a special unique sound – angelic really” You are is gospel, and represents Daniel Crossings heart and love for God. “Before all of this I was pretty messed up – but now I know that Jesus Christ saved my life - he is everything.”
On these tracks André Daniels worked with technical producer Stew West, who also played lead guitar and rhythm guitar. Stew has produced on two albums through Vineyard Music SA. Engineering was by Brendan Rossouw, who worked on the Proxy worship CD that won a SAMA in 2010. Mixing was by David Langemann, SAMA award winner for engineering for Freshlyground and known for working with Johnny Clegg. Mastering was by Tim Lengfield.
Lights and You are singles was released on June 16, 2012 - Youth Day in South Africa.
On vocals and influence ...
André was born in Kimberley, the diamond city of South Africa, and was raised in Cape Town, the mother city of South Africa.
His vocal career started under the tutelage of Dragana Jevtovic, Elizabeth Wright and other vocal trainers. He was mainly classically trained, and as a result spent a few years singing in an opera chorus and doing musical theatre at Artscape, Cape Town, and acting at the Grahamstown Drama Fringe Festival. Under the guidance of his last vocal trainer, Ryta Zmuro, he developed skills to cross over to other styles of music. Throughout this time he has been singing in a choir as well. Andre is a member at Lighthouse Ministries in Parow and loves that he is under the guidance of great teachers.
André Daniels’ musical influences came mostly from rock artists such as The Cranberries, U2, Bon Jovi and pop/r&b artists Whitney Houston, Wham, Madonna, jazz and gospel music - the Brooklyn Tabernacle choir and Shirley Caesar, to name a few. Daniels gets his inspiration for writing from people-watching, journaling, travelling the world, and reflecting on his faith in Jesus Christ.
On giving ...
André also has a heart for community development. In June 2009, he started the Arkarts Centre for Performing Arts non-profit. "Our main goal is to instill value into youth from disadvantaged backgrounds - we want them to realise that they can do it, there dreams are possible", says André. Currently Arkarts is doing choir development at primary schools in his local community. For more information visit www.facebook.com/arkarts.

At the end of it all, Daniel Crossing is about crossing over to something better, something new - we're always crossing some kind of bridge - going from one place to the other. The phrase Daniel Crossing doesn't represent one individual. It represents his family crossing to a better life - or desire for his family to cross over to a better life. “I also desire for your family to cross over to a better life - if it's good now, I want it to get better. If it's not good now, I want it to get better.”
