Perth-native drummer Daniel Susnjar has recently returned from the United States, where he earned his Masters and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. Apart from earning his academic credentials from this prestigious music school, Daniel has relished in opportunities to perform and record with world-class artists including Chick Corea, Pharrell Williams, Bobby McFerrin, Terence Blanchard, Steve Miller, Danilo Perez, Dave Douglas, Chris Potter, Victor Wooten, Ky-Mani Marley, Joshua Redman, Gloria Gaynor, Sammy Figueroa, Jon Secada, Kevin Mahogany, Take 6, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Arturo Sandoval and Dave Grusin, to name a few.
Whilst completing his doctoral dissertation based on the application of Afro-Peruvian rhythms to the drumset, Daniel assembled a group of top-shelf players based in New York, Miami and Peru to record his debut album entitled Su Su Nje. Featuring original compositions influenced by Afro-Peruvian rhythms, Daniel also pays homage to master Peruvian composers and musicians by creating fresh arrangements of classic Afro-Peruvian material including “Toro Mata,” “Taita Guaranguito” and “Enciendete Candela.”
Daniel was proud to have his father Danny Susnjar co-produce and co-mix the album, as well contribute as a special musical guest.
