ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This Album was recorded 'live, in N.Y.C.N.Y...It's dedicated to the Great Singer David Allyn, who passed on November 21,2012, at 93 years old. He,David Allyn and Dick Haymes, were mentors to me, in this classic style of singing. I continue this classic style of singing, despite the waters that rage against it..Featured players on this album are the very best of musicans. Mr.John Hart, Guitar/ Ronnie Zito, drums, bassist,Linc Milliman and Steve LaSpina/ Joe(Mags) Magnarelli, trumpet and flugelhorn. Liner notes,Bill Donaldson..quote "Danny Barrett, has once again demonstrated that he's one of a kind:a talented, caring performer who without hesitation sings from the heart. As if proof were needed,'Live from NYC' captures his personal attention to,and devoted attention from, his audiences.

David Allyn would have been proud!
I can say this. Danny Barrett, has the projection of Robert Goulet and the stamina of Sammy, the incredible feeling of David Allyn, the warmth and tradition of Dick Haymes, but I have to go one step further, especially after listening to this CD, Danny is able to take all of these qualities and make them his own. I am a very picky person when it comes to music, especially singers. Barrett does not sacrifice one quality for the other. For example, when he projects his voice, he does not lose the warmth, when he emotes, musicianship is not sacrificed, and when he just plain sings, he keeps the grass roots greatness of all those that put down the baby steps to great singing, per Crosby, Haymes, Allyn and Frank. This is something special and beyond words. I sincerely hope Danny keeps this tradition going. Listeners of great music and those looking to learn about the great singers of our day, please purchase this CD. Danny, it's not about time, It's way over due, you have truly made a great mark in the genre of great jazz balladeers. David Allyn would truly have been proud!

Live in NYC (This is, goodbye)
Class, sophistication and style are sadly lacking in today's disposable music -- with the notable exception of Danny Barrett's latest production. Mr. Barrett's attempt to bring back a bygone era of music is a resounding success. With his strong, yet supple and tender baritone voice, Mr. Barrett takes his listeners on a melodic tour of a dozen timeless songs. Backed by an ensemble cast of musicians led by guitarist John Hart, Mr. Barrett's range and interpretative gift allows him to seamlessly swing from up-tempo numbers, such as 'This is a lovely way to spend an evening' and 'Nothing is ever changes my love for you' to more soulful songs like 'We kiss in a shadow' and the pleading 'Music maestro, please.'
The title of the album does, however -- Live in NYC (This is, Goodbye) -- sound an ominous note. Let's hope it isn't this talented artist's music industry swan song after all.
