David Meulemans is an accomplished performer, as comfortable on the big stage as he is in the most intimate of venues. Classically trained, David earned a Bachelor’s degree from Lawrence Conservatory of Music in his native
Appleton, Wisconsin, where he began his performing career in stage plays,
concert work, recordings, and solo cabaret shows.
As a popular leading man in Florida’s musical theatre scene, David’s credits encompass such diverse roles as Bobby in Company, Za Za in La Cage Aux Folles, Little Chap in Stop The World...and even Stepsister Gert in a traditional
British “panto” version of Cinderella. Be it theatre, jazz, sacred or pop music, David’s vocal skills - combined with a keen ability to get inside a song and convey its meaning to the heart of the listener - elevate him above the average
singer. His unique background provides both content and context for his cabaret work.
David’s artistry has enabled him to perform with musical icons ranging from Carol Channing to Davy Jones. He has performed with MAC Award winners Tommy Femia and Steven Brinberg, and worked with Award-winning director/choreographer Michael Leeds. David originated the role of Herve in Fool’s Paradise, directed by Jonathan Cerullo, and he can be heard as the protagonist in the audio recording of Tony Award-winner Russ Thacker’s autobiographical musical comedy, Flamingos In Amber.
In 2011, David performed in Cabaret Stars of Tomorrow at the International Cabaret Conference at Yale University, which was followed by his debut performance at the famous “Don’t Tell Mama” cabaret in New York City, with an introduction by Julie Wilson. In playwright Jay Asher’s One Last Time, a one-character play-with-music in development for an Off-Broadway run. David's performance of the David Kent songbook in the US and UK in 2012 was called "masterful" "world class" and "stunning".
